Parkville, MO | Egress Window & Well Addition
In order to pass the building codes rules on emergency exit, this Parkville homeowner needed to add an egress window that was large enough to let a person escape.
The homeowner also indicated that they wanted the benefits of having natural light in the bedroom. They didn’t want the user to feel like they were in a cave.
The process involved digging away the dirt from the exterior of the foundation wall, cutting a 4′ x 4′ square hole in the wall, installing a window that is sized to meet the egress code, adding a window drain, and installing a metal well to hold back the dirt.
This homeowner also wanted us to leave the dirt on site, which saved them a little money in haul off costs. It worked out well for them because they wanted to spread the dirt around the foundation to improve the grade and do some little landscaping projects in the yard.
They also had a crack in the foundation that we were able to waterproof and keep from leaking. It was cost effective since we already dug up the dirt and the crack was easily accessible.
